A Path To Carbon Neutrality at Miami University
April 15, 2020: Coronavirus Postpones Earth Day
Earth Day 50th anniversary celebrations around the world are being postponed until the late summer and fall, or are being observed virtually, due to the coronavirus pandemic.
Miami University planned on celebrating the Earth Day anniversary with President Greg Crawford formally committing to carbon neutrality.
Ohio's Stay-At-Home orders, however, prevent us from celebrating these occasions in a public manner on the official Earth Day — April 22.
Instead, a celebration will be rescheduled when the Miami community is back on campus together.
Our commitment to carbon neutrality has not changed.
Please be assured: The progress we have made and continue to make toward carbon neutrality continues.
We have taken the next step: Forming a Climate Action Task Force.
- President Crawford recently announced the appointment of the task force co-chairs, Jonathan Levy, director of the Institute for the Environment and Sustainability and associate professor of geology and environmental earth science, and Adam Sizemore, director of sustainability.
- Levy and Sizemore are tasked with creating a Climate Action Plan to achieve carbon neutrality for Miami. In the next coming months they will work with the President's office to identify experts and appoint members to the Climate Action Task Force and its Working Groups.
Updates will be posted on this website and on Miami University Sustainability social media.
